Iraqi forces entered an area housing a government compound in the centre of Ramadi Saturday, part of a major offensive aimed at dislodging the Islamic State terrorist militia from the western city, an Iraqi official said. "Security forces entered the area of Huz at dawn," a spokesman for Anbar province's police, Yasser al-Dulaimi, said, reports dpa. "They are now engaged in fierce clashes with Daesh near the government complex," he added, using an Arabic acronymn for Islamic State. Ramadi is the capital of Anbar, which stretches from the outskirts of the capital, Baghdad, to the Syrian and Jordanian borders. Large areas of the mostly Sunni province are held by Islamic State. The South-East Coordinator of NEMA, Mr James Eze, said this after visiting victims of the explosion at the National Orthopedic Hospital, Enugu, and University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH, Ituku-Ozalla, Enugu State. The explosion, which occurred on Thursday, led to the death of six persons while several others sustained burns. Fire guts UNN Okeke hostel

(Nigeria) Fire on Wednesday gutted Okeke hostel of the University of Nigeria, Nsuka, destroying the whole two-storey hostel. The fire which started at  7:30 p.m.,  could not be put out as it razed the building completely. According to a student in one of the rooms in the hostel, who lost everything, the fire started when power was interrupted and immediately restored. She said it was wrong connection of wires that caused fire. The December fire was aided by gas cylinders used for cooking by the students, which explode at intervals. The fire service truck that came from its post near the school gate could not put out by fire fighters, as they retreated.  Most of the occupants of the hostel had already travelled for the Christmas and new year celebrations, while some of them who were around were able to save any of their belongings.
