Smart Nigerian Youths can fill global gap of Tech talents ---Osinbajo

*Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (Nigeria) Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has said that Nigeria has now become the technology investment destination in Sub-Saharan Africa, noting that the Buhari administration will continue to step up efforts in providing stable macroeconomic, conducive business environment, infrastructure and security nationwide.   He added that Nigeria can reap more rewards from maximizing its immense potential, especially that of its youths, in a sustainable way in a knowledge-based economy. Ugwuanyi offers scholarships to young inventors of aircraft, MP3 radio set

(Nigeria) Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has offered scholarships, up to University level, to the Enugu and Anambra-born young students of Government Technical College GTC, Nsukka and Enugu, Master Emmanuel Maduabuchi Chukwu and Master Chukwuebuka Udoye, who locally manufactured two aircraft (helicopter and jet fighter) and an MP3 radio set, respectively, in the state. Ugwuanyi announced the scholarships when he received the two students at the Government House Enugu on Tuesday, to appreciate their talents, skills and sheer dexterity in promoting technology-based innovation in the state. In addition, the governor gave the inventor of the two aircraft, Master Chukwu, an indigene of Nnewe in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State, the sum of N1 million, and N500,000.00 to the student of GTC, Enugu, Master Udoye, an indigene of Aguata in Anambra State, who produced the MP3 radio set, to enable them advance their inventions. Flood forecasting: NEMA provides automatic weather observatories to NIHSA

(Nigeria) To enhance operations of the Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency, NIHSA, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has provided three automatic Weather Observation Stations in support of NIHSA. Speaking in Abuja, at the unveiling of the 2021 annual flood outlook by the NHSA, NEMA's Director-General, AVM Muhammadu Muhammed (retd) said the weather stations which were at various stages of installations are located in Nasarawa State University, Keffi; Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti and Federal University, Kashere. The scholarship is for him to further his education in any tertiary institution of his choice. Governor Ikpeazu who made the disclosure at his lodge in Aba while receiving the 24 years old Solomon who is from Amaekpu in Ohafia LGA of the State expressed joy over the technical ingenuity exhibited by the young innovator noting that Abia has youths who can compete favourably with their international counterparts in technical education if given the opportunity. Senate confirms Shaba as DG National Space Agency

(Nigeria)The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Dr Halilu Shaba as the Director General, National Space Research and Development Agency, NASRDA. Shaba’s confirmation followed the consideration of a report by the Senate Committee on Science and Technology. In her presentation, Chairman of the Committee, Senator Uche Lilian Ekwunife, said although the Committee did not receive any petition against Shaba’s nomination from any member of the Space Council, the few received from some groups were not substantiated with verifiable evidence. According to the lawmaker, Shaba showed evidence of more than twenty-one years of post-doctoral research experience in space science – six years above the minimum requirement.
