Edo begins recruitment of over 700 healthcare professionals

Vulnerable Households to benefit from Edo-Cares grants

(Nigeria) About 169  i ndividuals from vulnerable households have been trained ,  yesterday ,  in Benin City , Edo State,  to benefit from the Nigeria CARES  (COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus  (N-CARES) code named EDO-CARES) grants in Edo. Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Humanitarian Affairs ,  Mrs .  Ifueko Alufohai, during a one-day livelihood support training and orientation organised by the State Cash Transfer Unit .  SCTU, explaining that the beneficiaries would be given grants ranging from N20,000 to N200,000. Enugu govt, NSIA sign agreement on take over of State Medical Diagnostic Centre

(Nigeria) Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of  Enugu State has signed an agreement with the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority , NSIA , for the federal agency to take over the state-of-the-art Enugu State Medical Diagnostic Centre, Enugu. The agreement is to pave the way for the NSIA to provide comprehensive medical, diagnostic and oncology (cancer) treatment services to the people of Enugu State and beyond. Recall that Gov ernor Ugwuanyi’s administration, sequel to the approval of the State Executive Council (EXCO), recently reached an agreement with the NSIA for the upgrade of the Medical Diagnostic Centre in Enugu, built by the state government.   The agreement to take over the health facility was reached after series of negotiations between the Enugu State Government and the NSIA. Court stops demolition of Ikoyi Treatment Center

(Nigeria) A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has granted an order restraining all the parties in the suit pertaining to the Ikoyi Cancer Treatment Center, from demolishing, destroying or tampering with the building situate and being at No.16, Alexander Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, pending the determination of all the cases pending in court over the land. Justice D.E. Osiagor granted the order after hearing argumnets from the Applicant’s counsel and human rights activist and legal luminary, Mr. Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN. Justice Osiagor also granted an order transferring the case to the High Court of Lagos State, for it to be consolidated with the other pending cases on the subject matter. Lagos Assembly passes bill on DNA, forensic centre

(Nigeria) A bill for a law establishing the Lagos State Deoxyribo-Nucleic Acid , DNA , and f orensic centre to support criminal investigations, law enforcement, preservation of evidence for the judicial system and for other connected purposes has been passed by the Lagos State House of Assembly. The bill was passed by the House after it scaled the third reading at plenary on Monday with all lawmakers in attendance giving their approvals. The report on the bill had been adopted at an earlier sitting presided over by Speaker ,   Mudashiru Obasa. A part of the objectives of the centre includes to provide for the use and regulation of DNA based technology in the Lagos State in order to carry out profiling or analysis. ITF partners Ugbajo Itsekiri USA on health insurance programme

(Nigeria) The Itsekiri Trust Fund, ITF, has partnered with Ugbajo Itsekiri in USA to provide and grant access to primary health care services to the Itsekiri of Sapele and it environ. The Itsekiri Trust Fund Healthcare program which held at First Baptist Church, Palmer Road, Sapele, had a smooth and large turn out of youths, the elderly and children from the community. The organiser explained that the mandate of Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, through the Itsekir Trust Fund, ITF, was to register as many persons as possible for the health insurance scheme without collecting a dime from the beneficiaries, adding that registration could also be done through the Itsekiri Trust Fund website. Recall that the Itsekiri Trust Fund was launched in Warri Kingdom’s Social Security Healthcare Safety Net, a program designed to provide Itsekiri with sustainable access to quality private Healthcare Service Providers, HSP, in Iwereland and nationwide.

Ogun confirms 4 cases of Monkey Pox

(Nigeria) The Ogun State Government has confirmed four new cases of Monkey Pox, bringing the total of cases recorded in the state to seven. This was disclosed in a statement   by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker in Abeokuta. According to the statement, two cases were discovered in Ota, within Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area while Abeokuta North and Abeokuta South had one case each. The statement revealed that the Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers ( DSNOs) in the affected local government areas have carried-out line-listing and contact tracing, pointing out that the patients are already on prescribed medications. It further advised residents to avoid direct contact with body fluid or sore of an infected live or dead animals, persons or contaminated items, just as it emphasised regular hand washing with soap and water especially after visiting or caring for a sick person. Lagos, UNFPA partners on cancer control

(Nigeria) No fewer than 200 health workers drawn from 60 public health facilities including the State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, 15 General Hospitals and 44 Primary Health Care Centres have been trained to provide breast and cervical cancer screening for citizens in their facilities. The eight days training program which ended yesterday was sponsored by the Lagos State Government in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA, to increase access to cancer screening services in all State health facilities. Osinbajo discharged after successful surgery at Duchess hospital

Morocco: AfDF commits €87m Loan to strengthen health services

The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group, has approved an €87 million loan to implement the Support Program for the Generalization of Social Coverage in Morocco. The primary objective of this operation is to consolidate the foundations of a viable social protection program based on an integrated and inclusive approach. The program will contribute to extending social protection, particularly for early childhood, young people, and the self-employed. “Social protection is a major focus of our initiatives in Africa,” said Martha Phiri, the Bank’s Director for Human Capital, Youth and Skills Development. Enugu govt collaborates with NSIA on upgrade of state Medical Diagnostic Centre

(Nigeria) The administration of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in Enugu State said it has reached a collaboration agreement with the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority, NSIA, for the upgrade of the State Medical Diagnostic Centre, Enugu, to a comprehensive Diagnostic and Oncology (Cancer) treatment Centre. A statement by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Emmanuel Obi, disclosed that the State Executive Council, sequel to the collaboration agreement, has approved the evacuation of the existing equipment in the Diagnostic Centre, as requested by the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority, to enable it take over the health facility. Dr. Obi added that the State Executive Council also approved that the evacuated equipment will be put to good use at ESUT Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Enugu and other hospitals in the state. Senate asks UK to remove Nigeria from COVID-19 red list

Tagged: “The Nursing and Midwifery (Registration etc) Act, CAP N143 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, (Amendment) Bill, the piece of legislation was sponsored by Senator Hassan Mohammed Gusau. Also passed was the National Maternal and Paternal Death Surveillance and Response Bill, sponsored by Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe. The passage of both bills followed the consideration of two separate reports by the Committee on Health (Secondary and Tertiary). Chairman of the Committee, Senator Oloriegbe, in his presentation, said the amendment of the principal Act was apt as it was a product of the Nursing Act of 1979, and the Midwives Act of 1966.
