Seplat holds AGM Wednesday in compliance with court order --Chairman

(Nigeria) The Board Chairman of Seplat Energy Plc, Mr. Basil Omiyi, has assured that the company would hold its scheduled Annual General Meeting, AGM, on Wednesday, in compliance with the final and binding judgment of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja. The court, Tuesday, in its judgment, ordered Seplat Energy Plc to hold its AGM as scheduled. The judgment by Justice A. Mohammed in suit number FHC/ABJ/PET/7/2023 - Akinnifesi & Adelaja V. Seplat Energy Plc - ‘further restrains any current or former directors, shareholders, and officers of the company from cancelling or postponing the AGM as announced to the public.” Consequently, Mr. Basil Omiyi in a statement said that in due compliance with the law and the judgment, its AGM will hold on May 10, 2023, at 11a.m., as expressly ordered by the court. VP Yemi Osinbajo has commissioned 240MW Afam Three Fast Power plant in Afam, Rivers State (Nigeria) Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has commissioned Transafam Power Limited, a subsidiary of Transnational Corporation Plc’s 240MW Afam Three Fast Power plant in Afam, Rivers State. With an already existing power plant residing in Afam, this brings the cumulative generating capacity of the plant to 1,000MW. *President Muhammadu Buhari (Nigeria) Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to “set up a presidential panel of enquiry to promptly probe the grim allegations that over 149 million barrels of crude oil are missing, as documented in the 2019 audited reports by the Auditor General of the Federation and Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, NEITI.” SERAP also urged him to “ensure the effective prosecution of anyone suspected to be responsible for the plundering of the country’s oil wealth and the full recovery of any proceeds of crime.” According to the 2019 audited report by the Auditor General over 107 million barrels of crude oil were lifted as domestic crude without any document or tracing. NEITI also reported missing 42.25 million barrels of crude oil in 2019. *Embattled of Seplat Energy Plc, CEO, Mr. Roger Brown (Nigeria) A Federal High Court, sitting in Lagos on Thursday vacated the interim ex-parte orders previously made by the court, restraining the Chief Executive Officer of Seplat Energy Plc, Mr. Roger Brown, from participating in the management of the company. Trial judge, Justice Aneke vacated the order while ruling on applications filed by the Respondents, namely Seplat Energy Plc, Mr. Roger Thompson Brown, Mr. Basil Omiyi, and Persons affected by the ex parte orders in Suit No. FHC/L/402/2023. The court held that by virtue of Order 26 Rules 9 and 10 of the of the Federal High Court Civil Procedure Rules 2019, the interim orders of the court made on 8th March 2023 are hereby discharged and vacated. The court also refused the request of counsel to the petitioners to move his application for joinder. Transcorp Power MD seeks cheaper costs of servicing turbines abroad

SERAP sues Buhari over failure to ‘reverse unlawful electricity tariff hike’

*President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria (Nigeria) Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project , SERAP , has filed a lawsuit against President Muhammadu Buhari over “the failure to reverse the unlawful, unjust, and unreasonable increase in electricity tariff, and to probe the spending of public funds as ‘investments and bailouts’ to DisCos and GenCos since 2005.” Respondents in the suit are the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami , SAN, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission , NERC, and the Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading P lc . Following reported approval by the NERC, electricity tariffs were increased across DisCos in the country in December 2022. Several prepaid customers have reportedly confirmed the increase. The Minister of Power and NERC have refused to confirm or deny the increase. (Nigeria) Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project , SERAP , has filed a lawsuit against the oil producing states in Nigeria over “their failure to account for the spending of the oil derivation refunds of N625b illio n recently paid to them by the Federal Government, including details and locations of projects executed with the money.” The Federal Government recently paid N625.43 billion oil derivation refunds to the governors of Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Rivers, Ondo, Imo and Cross River states. The payments covered 13 percent oil derivation, subsidy, and SURE-P refunds. The refunds date from 1999 to 2021. In the suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/2371/2022 filed last Friday at the Federal High Court, Abuja, SERAP is asking the court to “direct and compel the governors to disclose and widely publish the details of spending of the oil derivation refunds, subsidy, and SURE-P refunds.” SERAP is also asking the court to “compel President Muhammadu Buhari to direct anti-cor

(Nigeria) Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project , SERAP , has filed a s uit against the government of President Muhammadu Buhari over “the failure to probe the operations of illegal oil pipelines between 2001 and 2022, to name and prosecute those suspected to be involved, and to recover proceeds of crime.” The suit was filed by SERAP, Chief Eric Dooh, (who is suing for himself as a leader of the Goi Community in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, and on behalf of the Goi Community), and 15 other concerned Nigerians. The suit followed recent reports of the discovery of at least 58 illegal oil pipelines used to steal the country’s oil wealth. The stealing is reportedly carried out through the illicit pipeline connected to the trunk line via an abandoned pipeline, and linked to a location in the high sea, where they load crude oil into vessels and sell overseas. Lawyers raise concern over illegal lifting of crude oil at Ugo Ocha terminal

(Nigeria) A group of lawyers have petitioned the Senate Ad-Hoc committee over alleged illegal oil lifting from the Ugo Ocha export terminal at Oil Mining Lease , OML , 42. Investigations revealed OML 42 is located in the swamps of the Western Niger Delta , comprising four flow stations with a combined production capacity of 30,000 barrels of oil per day operated by Neconde Energy Limited. The lawyers through their counsel, O.F Emmanuel & CO in a letter dated September 21 , 2022 , by the principal partner, Oluwatosin Emmanuel to the Nigerian Senate , called for probe into the circumstances on how an average one million barrels of oil is being taken away monthly without accurate measurement due to the absence of meters at this export terminal.
