Suspected cultists remanded over alleged murder

(Nigeria) An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates' Court in Lagos on Wednesday ordered the remand of two suspected cult members in prison custody, over the alleged murder of 35-year-old Joseph Agboola.
The Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, ordered the remand of the two accused -- Suraj Ramon (33) and Ademola Ahmed (24) -- following an application for their remand by the Prosecutor.
They are to be remanded for the first 30 days, pending advice from the Office of the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, on the matter.
The accused had appeared on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, belonging and managing a secret society and murder.
Being a murder case, the pleas of the accused were not taken, as the magistrates’ court lacked the jurisdiction to prosecute such matters.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mrs A. Matthew, said that the two suspects and others, now at large, on December 1, at Bajulaiye Canal Area of Somolu, gunned down the deceased.
She also told the court that the duo belonged and managed an unlawful society named 'Eiye Fraternity'.
Matthew said that the offences contravened Sections 41, 42, 221 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Layeni, however, adjourned the case till January 25, 2016, pending the DPP’s advice.
