Syria: Lavrov, Kerry round up 12-hours talks in Geneva

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and United States Secretary of State John Kerry have rounded up the talks on Syria, which they have been holding in Geneva for more than 12 hours. Coordination of Moscow and Washington's efforts in fighting with terrorists in Syria was the main issue on the agenda, according to Tass, Russian news agency. Talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that lasted more than 12 hours were dominated by discussions of the situation in Syria and Ukraine, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry told a news briefing here upon their completion. (Nigeria) The new President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Mr Abubakar Mahmoud, SAN, has advocated the reform of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. CBN warns banks on illicit money transfers

(Nigeria)The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has directed commercial banks to conduct Know Your Customers' Businesses, KYCB, to ensure customers do not transact illegal or illicit remittances through the banking industry. The CBN gave the directive to authourised dealers, mainly banks, on Friday in a circular signed by the acting Director of Trade And Exchange Department, Mr W.D Gotring and titled, ``Illicit international money remittances through the banking system’’. The apex bank had observed that some Deposit Money Banks, DMBs, were operating accounts either as companies or masking themselves as individuals for the purpose of illegally receiving money transfer flow. They then claimed to onward disburse such funds to recipients in the country. The CBN had directed the commercial banks to identify and freeze those accounts receiving illicit flows. It also directed them to submit mandate and account details of such accounts held in foreign and local currencies to the CBN. The

(Nigeria) The Presidential Amnesty Office on Friday said 22 beneficiaries of its foreign education programme had graduated as Aircraft Maintenance Engineers and had returned to the country. The Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and the Coordinator of Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brig.-Gen. Paul Boroh, disclosed this in Abuja. He said the beneficiaries were trained at the Royal Jordanian Air Academy and were equipped with EASA licence on return, adding that without the licence, they would not be useful in the aviation industry. ( Nigeria ) The Enugu State Police Command has arrested the suspected mastermind of the herdsmen attack on Ndiagu Attakwu Akegbe Ugwu community in Nkanu West Local Government Area of the state. A statement by the command’s spokesman, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, in Enugu on Friday gave the name of the suspect as Umaru Isah from Gusau, capital of Zamfara.
