Chidi Lloyd loses election petition to return to Rivers Assembly

(Nigeria) The former Leader, Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr. Chidi Lloyd of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has again failed in his bid to return to the Legislative arm, as the Rivers Elections Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja on Friday, upheld the election of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Sam Ogeh of Emohua State Constituency.
Mr. Lloyd, who lost in the March 19, 2016, re-run Legislative Assembly Election in the State, had approached the Elections Tribunal, seeking the nullification of the election result which produced Ogeh of the PDP as the duly elected representative of that constituency.
Similarly, the election of Michael Chinda, member representing Obio/Akpor Constituency II, also of PDP, has been upheld in a unanimous judgment delivered today in a petition filed by the All Progressives Congress candidate in the election, Mr. Wali Believe Azeru, challenging the election of the PDP candidate.
The latest judgments followed August 24, 2016, Elections Tribunal judgments declared in favour of the PDP candidates, (Mrs.) Blessing Charles Nsiegbe of Port Harcourt Federal constituency 1;. Edison Ehie and Martins Mannah of Ahoada East I and II State constituencies respectively.
Meanwhile, the Chairman,  PDP, Mr Felix Obuah In his reaction expressed joy over the victories of the party's candidates at the Elections Petition Tribunal, describing the development as a vindication of the PDP, as well as confirmation of Rivers people’s acceptance and mandate for the Party.
He commended the Tribunal Judges for their objectivity in handling the matters before them and urged them to maintain the tempo in the interest of the nation’s democracy and the rule of law.
Obuah congratulates the PDP candidates on their overwhelming victories, and urged them to remain focused, development-sensitive and to give the people of their various constituencies and the entire State purposeful legislations in line with the good governance principles of Governor Nyesom Wike.
“In all of this, we give thanks and glory to God,” Obuah said.
