Gov Bello not stoned at Central Mosque ----Kogi govt

(Nigeria) Kogi State Government has denied reports, that the state governor, Mr Yahaya Bello, was stoned during the Jumaat Prayer at the Lokoja Central Mosque to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the creation of the state. Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Kingsley Fanwo  in a statement on Friday in Lokoja, said "Our attention has been drawn to the unfortunate incident, which occurred during the Jumaat Prayer at the Lokoja Central Mosque to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the creation of Kogi State. "It was discovered that some sponsored miscreants caused a mild drama as they were caught with stones while one of them attacked one of the security aides of the Governor. "The gallant market women at the Lokoja Old Market accosted the perpetrators and stopped them from absconding from the scene in solidarity with the Governor. (Nigeria) Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has said that  the state is the most secured in the South-South region and this was largely due to the efforts of the security agencies who work tirelessly to keep the state safe. (Nigeria) Over 2,000 Urhobo and Anioma natives of Delta State resident in Edo State have thrown their weight behind the candidature of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr. Godwin Obaseki for the September 10, 2016 governorship election. The Urhobo, mainly members of the Urhobo Progressive Union said as the largest non-natives in the State, they have decided to support Obaseki in all ways possible to ensure the continued growth of the state. Chidi Lloyd loses election petition to return to Rivers Assembly

(Nigeria) The former Leader, Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr. Chidi Lloyd of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has again failed in his bid to return to the Legislative arm, as the Rivers Elections Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja on Friday, upheld the election of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Sam Ogeh of Emohua State Constituency. Mr. Lloyd, who lost in the March 19, 2016, re-run Legislative Assembly Election in the State, had approached the Elections Tribunal, seeking the nullification of the election result which produced Ogeh of the PDP as the duly elected representative of that constituency. (Nigeria) Mr A. B. Mahmoud, SAN, has been sworn in as the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA. He was sworn in at the last day of the ongoing annual general conference of the association in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Meanwhile, the association  has urged Federal Government to adequately fund university education in the country. The association also urged the government to equip the military to enable it face the insurgence confronting the nation. Suspected mastermind of herdsmen attack in Enugu arrested

( Nigeria ) The Enugu State Police Command has arrested the suspected mastermind of the herdsmen attack on Ndiagu Attakwu Akegbe Ugwu community in Nkanu West Local Government Area of the state. A statement by the command’s spokesman, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, in Enugu on Friday gave the name of the suspect as Umaru Isah from Gusau, capital of Zamfara. Amaraizu said that the arrest of the suspect followed intelligence made available to the command. “The Enugu State Police Command in its resolve to unmask the perpetrators of the attack on Ndiagu Attakwu Akegbe Ugwu has nabbed one Umaru Isah over his alleged involvement in the incident. “The suspect, who claimed to be 20 years of age, said he came to Enugu from Gusau in Zamfara State to rear cattle, but has none to rear till now. “Investigations are still on with a view to unmasking his gang,” he said. (Nigeria) Efforts by the leading candidate in the just concluded Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, elections, Chief Joe-Kyari Gadzama, SAN, to stop the swearing in of the purported winner of the election, Mr. A.B. Mahmoud,   SAN, at the on-going Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt , Rivers State,  has suffered a temporary setback as an Abuja High Court was unable to hear the motion as all necessary parties   to the suit   were not served the   with the processes and motion on notice filed by Gadzama.
