May 29: IG greets Nigerians

(Nigeria) The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, on Thursday, pledged continued unalloyed loyalty of the police to the government and people of Nigeria.
He made the pledge in a message to Nigerians as the nation mark 16 years of unbroken democratic rule on Friday.
He, therefore, urged the personnel to subject themselves to civil authority and accord maximum respect to the fundamental rights of the citizenry.
He advised them to remain politically-neutral and steer clear of partisan politics, in line with their professional ethics.
The IG warned that those found meddling in politics in or outside their areas of jurisdiction would be appropriately sanctioned and commended the officers for protecting the nation’s thriving democracy.
Arase promised that the force would do everything within its power, including partnering with relevant stakeholders, to effectively secure lives and property of Nigerians, in spite of current security challenges.
