IG promises investigation of police killing of commercial motorcycle operator

(Nigeria) The Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, says the death in Lagos of commercial motorcycle operator,  Olalekan Ajayi, will be properly investigated to ensure justice.
Abubakar made the promise in a statement issued by Mr Frank Mba, the Force Public Relations Officer on Thursday.
``The Force will do its utmost best to ensure that investigation into the death is properly done and concluded in record time,’’ he said.
The statement directed the commissioner of police in charge of the state to take urgent steps to ensure expeditious execution of justice on the matter.
Ajayi was allegedly shot and killed on Tuesday at Ikorodu by a policeman attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, after he resisted seizure of his motorcycle.
Aggrieved residents of the area took to the street on Wednesday to protest the killing.
The statement said that the policeman linked with Ajayi’s death had been detained and was undergoing investigation.
It condoled with the family, friends and colleagues of the late motorcyclist, and appealed for calm to enable police authorities wade into the matter to ensure justice.
