Ebonyi police confirm murder of 2 people

(Nigeria) The Ebonyi Police Command has confirmed the killing of two persons  in Abakaliki and Uburu, Eboyin State,  weekend. Mr Sylvester Igbo, the command’s Public Relations Officer, told newsmen on Monday that the victims were Chukwudalu Omege, 15, of No 7, Ibe Street, Abakaliki, and Innocent Onu, 54, of Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area.
Igbo said that reports from the Ekumenyi Police Station showed that Omege was stabbed to death by a 25-year-old cousin of his.
``The report indicated that Omege was rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, where he died on Saturday. On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime, saying that he saw three men trying to kill him in a dream.
``He said that when he woke up, he prayed against the dream and went back to sleep where he had another dream identifying Omege as one of those planning to kill him,’’ the spokesman said.
He also announced the murder of Onu by a 40-year-old relation of his in Uburu, Ohaozara council of the state.
He said the suspect had a bitter quarrel with Onu and other relatives on Saturday over his decision to tip laterite on a ground where the family had planned to use for a wedding reception on Sunday.
``After persuasion, he agreed to relocate the laterite but when the family members gathered to finalise the arrangements for the wedding reception, he brandished a gun and shot Onu,’’ he said.
He said that the suspect immediately escaped into the bush while a manhunt had been mounted by the Ohaozara Police Division.
