NDLEA lay siege to Kashamu's Lagos house

(Nigeria) The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, on Saturday surrounded the house of a senator-elect wanted by the United States in a nearly 20-year-old heroin deal that was the alleged basis for the TV hit "Orange is the New Black." Buruji Kashamu is under house arrest, according to the chairman of NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade, according to AP . But Kashamu's spokesman, Austin Oniyokor, said, "He has not been arrested but there is a siege to his house and an attempt to forcibly take him." He said the agents did not have an arrest warrant. Giade said Kashamu, 56, will appear in a federal high court Monday to start extradition proceedings to the United States. He said agents raided Kashamu's home in Lagos at around 5 a.m., before dawn Saturday. Armed agents were seen surrounding the property Saturday night. Troops kill dozens of Boko Haram fighters

(Nigeria) The Nigerian military has killed dozens of Boko Haram fighters and rescued additional 20 women and children from Sambisa forest. Director Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade in a statement in Abuja on Saturday, said "Despite continuous encounter with large number of land mines which still litter the Sambisa forest, troops have forged ahead with the ongoing offensive operations as scores of the terrorists died in the assault on their bases on Friday.  Several of their weapons and equipment perished after the encounter.  Over 10 soldiers were however wounded while one died following explosions of land mines along the routes of advance.  Some equipment were also damaged or affected by the detonation of land mines in several points in the forest. "A total of 20 women and children were rescued at the end of the Friday operation.  They have all been airlifted out of the forest.  The wounded soldiers have also been moved out for necessary treatment. &quo

Police rescue 10 kidnap victims in Ekiti

(Nigeria) The police have rescued 10 persons kidnapped in Ekiti State by gunmen. Force Police Spokesperson, Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu in a statement in Abuja on Saturday, said  "The special operation ordered by the Inspector General of Police,  IG, Mr Solomon Arase, has this morning successfully rescued 19 persons from the hands of kidnappers in Ekiti State. The victims are being debriefed and receiving medical attention. "Some kidnappers have been arrested and the operation is ongoing. It will be recalled that the IG this week dispatched a crack team of operatives to the State to stem the rising tide of kidnapping. "The Police remain responsive and shall continue to apply proactive and prompt response measures to issues of crime nationwide, "  the statement added .

Kiev court order arrest of captured Russian soldier

A court in Kiev has ordered the arrest of the second Russian national Yevgeny Yerofeyev detained by the Ukrainian law enforcers in the Luhansk region, advisor to the Security Service of Ukraine Markian Lubkovsky said on Friday. According to Lubkovsky, Yevgeny Yerofeyev and Alexander Alexandrov were taken to custody as a pre-trial measure, reports Tass . "A decision was taken on their arrest until July 19," Lubkovsky wrote on his Facebook page. It was earlier reported that Russian national Alexander Alexandrov was arrested by a Kiev court.  The two Russian citizens are facing a prison term of at least 15 years, spokesman for the Security Service of Ukraine Vitaly Naida said shortly before. N789m subsidy scam: EFCC re-arraigns Opeyemi Ajuyah

(Nigeria)  The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,  on Friday re-arraigned Opeyemi Ajuah, Majope Investment, Abdullah Alao, Axenergy, and Olarenwaju Olalusi before Justice Lateefa Okunnu of a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja, on eight-count amended charge of conspiracy,  forgery and obtaining money under false pretense. The suspects were first arraigned before the same court for allegedly obtaining  the sum of N1.110billion fraudulently as subsidy payments for 15,206,733 metric tons of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from the Federal Government. At Friday's re- arraignment, prosecuting counsel, Seidu Atteh, brought before  an amended eight- count charge against the suspects,  alleging that they obtained the  sum of N798.984million from the Federal  government in unearned subsidy payments for  20,386,583 metric tons of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
