Criminal allegations: Charge IPoB, ESN members to court, if honest, IPoB tells Anambra CP

(Nigeria) Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB, has described Anambra State Police Command's linking its members with criminal activities in the state, as one of the many lies of the Nigerian Police against the organisation (IpoB), challenging the CP to charge arrested persons to court, if he was honest about his claim.

IPoB in a statement on Tuesday by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, said: "We, the global family and movement of the IPoB, under the command and leadership of our great and indefatigable leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, condemns Anambra Commissioner of Police for linking IPoB and ESN with the criminal activities in Anambra State and other parts of the Eastern Nigeria.
"Nigeria Police's habit of forcing criminals to confess as being members of IPoB or ESN is absurd and unprofessional, it is unfortunate that the Nigeria Police will not stop ridiculing themselves in order to tarnish the image of IPoB.
"We wonder how Nigeria police keep ridiculing themselves by linking the innocent members of IPoB with criminal activities because of their hatred and blackmail agenda against IPoB.
"The Nigerian police use of the media to blackmail IPoB for crimes they themselves mastermind is crazy. They make their assertions without investigation, a mark of incompetence, inefficiency and cowardice.
"How come those criminals whom Nigeria Police arranged to confess as belonging to IPoB or ESN are never arraigned in court in public? This makes mockery of professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force.
"For public information, and avoidance of doubt, neither IPoB members nor ESN operatives indulge in criminality. None of those criminals arrested belong to IPoB, they are Nigeria Police arranged criminals to blackmail IPoB.
"We are peaceful movement, we don't engage in criminal. It is public knowledge that some of the criminal gangs arrested so far had some serving as Police officers or sacked Police officers as their members, a situation that has proved us right that some of the criminal activities were masterminded by the Police.
"Nigeria Police is fully aware of the innocence of IPoB, but because of an agenda to blackmail, demonize, and get IPoB internationally proscribed, they run to media and link us with any criminal activities in Biafra land, but that is no more fashionable because Nigerians know the type of Police they have.
"We believe that Nigeria Police Institution should be ashamed of themselves for breeding criminals who blackmail IPoB, many Nigeria Police officials are criminals themselves and that is why the hobnob, and easily relate with criminals.
"The Nigerian Police knows those behind this criminal activities of kidnapping and armed robbery in Anambra State and South East in general, they are not IPoB members or ESN operatives. The Nigeria Police know those who were the real criminals and they shield them, leave them to go free because they settle them with money.
"IPoB doesn't indulge in such criminal activities like kidnapping, snatching of people's cars, and killing of innocent citizens. IPoB members and ESN operatives are being hunted by the Nigeria government and her security agencies for protecting our lands against the invading Fulani terrorists nicknamed herdsmen.
"We can not at the same time be kidnapping and committing crimes against the same Biafrans who we are protecting. For Anambra State Police Commissioner, to name IPoB and ESN members as responsible for the kidnapping at Neni even when the criminals have been arrested, shows the evil agenda of the Nigerian Police Force.

"Again, IPOB and ESN are focused on defending our lands from terrorists and on the restoration of Biafra as an independent state not on terrorising our own people."

NBC has no powers to impose fine on broadcast stations --Court

(Nigeria) The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has been restrained by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, from imposing fines on broadcast stations in the country. Trial judge in the matter, Justice James Omotosho also set aside the N500,000 fines imposed on March 1, 2019, on each of 45 broadcast stations. The court made the orders in its judgment a suit by the Incorporated Trustees of Media Rights Agenda, MRA, which had sued the NBC. Justice Omotosho held that the NBC, not being a court of law, had no power to impose sanctions as punishment on broadcast stations. The court further held that the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, which gives the commission the power to impose sanction, is in conflict with Section 6 of the Constitution that vested judicial power in the court of law.
