Group to hold ALGON Peace Cup tournament
The National Coordinator of the organisation, Mr Bonaventure Chimee made this known at the inauguration of State Coordinators of NYDP in Abuja.
Mr Chimee said the tournament which had been endorsed by the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, was to foster unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians most especially the youths.
He stated that the tournament would also aim at discovering talented youths in the field of football.
According to him, the move will go a long way in combating restiveness, crime and all forms of unpatriotic acts among Nigerian youths.
“Anyone that is in the know will agree with me that the youth constitutes the bulk of our society. No one would dispute the fact that this awesome class of our population holds the very key to our prosperity, development and future as a nation, requiring the greatest attention and investment to tap from their enormous potential for the purposes of building our nation into the envy of our world,” Mr Chimee explained
In a remark, the National President of ALGON, Kolade Alabi said the football tournament would compliment the efforts of Local Government Administrations in the task of maintaining law and order at the grassroots.
Mr Alabi who was represented by the National Legal Adviser of ALGON and Chairman of ALGON in Kogi State, Mr Taufik Isah advised youths to always engage in positive ventures and contribute their quota to national peace and development.
In their separate goodwill messages the Oba of Yoruba in the FCT, Dr Olusegun Salau and the Eze Ndi Igbo, Karu Abuja, Igwe Ezenwa Anyanwu stressed the need for Government at all levels to always embark on programmes that would make youths self reliant and productive in the society.
Highlight of the occasion was the inauguration of state Coordinators of National Youth Development Project, NYDP, with a call on them to be committed to objectives of the organisation.
