ABSUTH denies call to Senator Kalu, to help pay salary arrears
(Nigeria) The Board and Management of Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), on January 6, 2021, denied an allegation making rounds in social media, allegedly claiming that ABSUTH has approached Senator Orji Kalu, the former governor of Abia state, to pay salary arrears.
Dr Wokoh Davison, Chairman of the governing council ABSUTH, disclosed this on January 6, 2021, in Abia state in a press release issued to journalists.
Davison said the statement attributed to Dr Okwuonu Chimezie, the state NMA Chairman is false and does not in any way represent the current state of affairs at the Teaching Hospital.
He said “This is coming barely one week after Government
commenced the payment of the arrears as earlier promised by the Governor. The
Board and Management of the Institution frown seriously at such outlandish call
that has no substance and therefore wish to state as follows, we are not aware
of any of such visit to any Senator, We did not authorize such statements.
“The Government of Abia State led by Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has shown genuine interest and is determined to clear the salary arrears - as the first tranche of payment was received recently.
“The Board and Management of ABSUTH are grateful to the
State Government and believe in her genuine interest in revitalizing the
Hospital. “
