APGA Northern stakeholders demand National chairmanship position

National Convention, a group the Northern stakeholders within the  All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA,  has demanded that the position of the National Chairman of the party be zoned to the North.
The group further asked for equity in the distribution of other offices of the party in line with the Federal Character principle.
In a communique at the end of its meeting in Kaduna,  the Northern Stakeholders of the APGA which had in attendance a former National Secretary/Secretary of the party's Board of Trustees and governorship candidate of the party in Zamfara State, Alhaji Sani Shinkafi, Mr Polycarp Gankon, state Chairmen and Secretaries from the Northern States of the Federation and all other Constitutionally recognised members of the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the party said that the party's constitution provided for the zoning of national offices.
The communique said, "After exhaustive deliberations on various important issues as it affects the party especially an assessment of the present state of the party and the forthcoming Wards, States  congresses and the National Convention of the party the meeting resolved as follows;
“That a vote of confidence be passed in the governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, the National Leader of the party and the Chairman Board of Trustees of APGA for his spectacular performance in office in all facets of governance, the economy and other socio-cultural activities despite the very trying times that the nation found itself as it concerns the worst recession in the modern history of Nigeria.
“The Northern stakeholders also congratulates our representatives in the National Assembly and states Assembly, who won their elections in the recently  concluded 2019 general election and charged all our candidates that are in the electoral tribunals to diligently pursue their petitions up to its logical conclusion.
“Stakeholders enjoined all leaders of the party at all levels to see and embrace the need to keep the party to remain more united to enable it go in and out of the forthcoming wards, local government, state congresses and National Convention successfully in accordance with the provision of the party's constitution, Electoral Act 2010 as amended and the 1999 Constitution.
“The stakeholders further reaffirmed the provisions of the APGA Constitution Article 18 which deals with the zoning of party offices: The composition of offices of the Executive Committee and other principal organs at the executive level of the party shall reflect the principal of the Federal Character of Nigeria except in the case of states, local government and wards which are ethnically homogeneous, the composition shall take into account of the electoral delineation of the area.”
