Delta Speaker, monarchs preach peace at CEPEJ centre unveiling
(Nigeria) The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Chief Sheriff
Oborevwori, the Etsu Nupe and Emir of Bida, in Niger State, Alhaji
Yahaya Abubakar, the Orodje of Okpe, Orhue 1, the Amayanabo of Twon-Brass in
Bayelsa State, King Alfred Diete-Spiff
have harped on the need for
peaceful co-existence among Nigerians irrespective of their tribe and religion.
Speaker Oborevwori and the monarchs made the call at
Ugolo-Okpe in Okpe Local Government Area, Delta State, during the unveiling of
Africa for Peace Centre and groundbreaking ceremony for African Heritage International Academy.
The Speaker who noted
that Delta State governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa was doing a lot to better the living
conditions of people in the state, praised CEPEJ for its continued pursuit of
peaceful co-existence and called on Deltans to sustain the prevailing peace in
the state.
He said, "I want to commend the coordinator of CEPEJ, Mr
Sheriff Mulade for his efforts towards peace. We should all key into the
peace initiative efforts of CEPEJ. I am
happy that this programme is taking place in my constituency. This is my second
time of coming here and when I saw the gigantic project he had put in this
place, I know that he is a man that is very articulate and focused. Apart from
the efforts of the security agencies, the people of Gbaramatu Kingdom where Mulade is from have also contributed to the
peace we are enjoying today in Delta State."
Chairman of Niger State Traditional Rulers’ Council, Alhaji
Abubakar while commending CEPEJ for advocating as well as standing firm for
peace and conflict resolution, prayed God to give Nigerians the spirit to
tolerate one another.
The Orodje of Okpe, Orhue 1 and the Amayanabo of Twon-Brass in Bayelsa State,
King Alfred Diete-Spiff spoke in the
same vein.
Earlier, the National Coordinator, CEPEJ, Mr Mulade, noted
that when the new African Heritage Academy International which CEPEJ is
building comes on board, it will help young people get actively involved in the
process of regional transformation.
He said, "The office complex which we call The Africa
for Peace Centre that we are unveiling today
is specially built to accommodate our NGO, CEPEJ. It is a non-religious
and non-political civil society organisation that has become, since inception,
the foremost, authentic, credible and well accepted national and international
organisation for peace and environmental best practices.
"CEPEJ is committed to actively working to promote
peace, effective security and environmental institution that collaborate with
government, ministries, agencies as well as private organisations, to adopt and
implement non-violent means of conflict resolution. CEPEJ is in a hurry to
invest in institutions and people. We strongly believe that young people should
be involved in the process of regional transformation as they are key elements in
achieving sustainable development."
Mulade commended Apex
Environmental Consultants Limited, Egbema Gbaramatu Communities’ Development
Foundation, EGCDF, Partnership Initiative for Niger Delta, PIND and Chevron
Nigeria Limited for their support.
Others who spoke at the event include representative of
Librarian Ambassador to Nigeria, Louis Edward of British High Commission,
Abuja, the Director, Centre for Foundation Studies, Federal University, Otuoke,
Bayelsa State and the Edo State Government representatives.
