IPOB blast DSS over harassment of Senator Ike Ekweremadu

(Nigeria) The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has described as barbaric and shameful, the raids of the house of Deputy Senate President, Mr Ike Ekweremadu by the Department of State Services, DSS.
IPOB in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary,  also described it as “Primitive act and uncalled for” the alleged harassment and intimidation of Ekweremadu, saying that it was like touching the tiger by the tail as they will be resisted by IPOB with every might within its power.
“This shameless move made by DSS to ransacked the home of Ekweremadu and constant harassment of the family is becoming unbearing and unacceptable by IPOB, it is a challenge to Biafrans and Ndigbo living home and abroad.
“The harassment melted on Chief Ekweremadu’s family members is abnormal and it must stop, and we want to ask what crime has Senator Ekweremadu committed, we know that his harassment is to silence him and others from speaking out the truth.
“However, we in IPOB are telling Nigerian government and its directionless security outfit that we will resist them from harassing and intimidating notable Igbo men and women, Nigerian government cannot pretend as if they are not aware of DSS excesses against Ndigbo.”
IPOB said that it will not tolerate the use of security agents to silence outspoken Igbo men and women, and warned that the continued harassment and detention of Biafra activists, politicians and businessmen from Igbo extraction will no more be accepted.
“The raiding of Chief Ekweremadu’s house came immediately after he mobilized all the South East politicians and businessmen in the country on how to perfect the stringent bail conditions attached to our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja, and since then he has became the target of DSS and Northern oligarchy.
"The aim of the tyrannical government of All Progressives Congress, APC, led government in Nigeria is to strangulate Biafrans who are in position of authority, and the successful business men, but we wish to inform them that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu led IPOB will fight to a standstill without delay the onslaught against prominent Igbo men and women in such positions.
“This APC government under Muhammadu Buhari is trying to design an atmosphere of fear and terror against Ndigbo,but we assure them that it will not work, because we in IPOB will never allow that to happen, it must stop.”

NBC has no powers to impose fine on broadcast stations --Court

(Nigeria) The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has been restrained by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, from imposing fines on broadcast stations in the country. Trial judge in the matter, Justice James Omotosho also set aside the N500,000 fines imposed on March 1, 2019, on each of 45 broadcast stations. The court made the orders in its judgment a suit by the Incorporated Trustees of Media Rights Agenda, MRA, which had sued the NBC. Justice Omotosho held that the NBC, not being a court of law, had no power to impose sanctions as punishment on broadcast stations. The court further held that the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, which gives the commission the power to impose sanction, is in conflict with Section 6 of the Constitution that vested judicial power in the court of law.
