Communication Minister commissions Army info, call centre

(Nigeria) The Minister of Communication, Mr Abdurraheem Shittu on Tuesday, commissioned the newly established Nigerian Army Information and Call Centre, NAIC, at the Headquarters, Nigerian Army Abuja.
Director Army Public Relations Army headquarters, Brigadier General Sani Usman in a statement said, "This is in line with the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai's determined efforts of making the Nigerian Army accessible, accountable and responsive in the discharge of its Constitutional duties.
"The newly commissioned Nigerian Army Information and Call Centre, NAICC, is equipped with modern communication gadgets which is manned by specialists from various corps to monitor and receive complaints from the public through the short code of 193 using any of the telecommunication service providers in the country. 
"The NAICC is expected to also receive calls or complains from troops serving in various parts of the country. Thus, saving them the stress of using the Social Media,"  the statement added.

NBC has no powers to impose fine on broadcast stations --Court

(Nigeria) The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has been restrained by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, from imposing fines on broadcast stations in the country. Trial judge in the matter, Justice James Omotosho also set aside the N500,000 fines imposed on March 1, 2019, on each of 45 broadcast stations. The court made the orders in its judgment a suit by the Incorporated Trustees of Media Rights Agenda, MRA, which had sued the NBC. Justice Omotosho held that the NBC, not being a court of law, had no power to impose sanctions as punishment on broadcast stations. The court further held that the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, which gives the commission the power to impose sanction, is in conflict with Section 6 of the Constitution that vested judicial power in the court of law.
