Man, 33, charged for alleged rape of teenager


(Nigeria) A 33-year-old man, Taofeek Olaiya, on Wednesday, appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl.
The accused, a factory worker, who resides at Ijaiye, Ojokooro area, a Lagos suburb, is facing a one-count- charge of rape.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Simeon Inuoha, told the court that the accused committed the offence on November 23 at his residence.
Inuoha said that the accused invited the girl to his house under the pretence that he would secure a job for her.
“The accused called the victim on phone and told her that he had secured a job for her and asked her to come to his house to get the details.
“But on getting to his house, the accused shut the door after the girl and raped her,’’ he said.
The offence contravened Section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused , however, pleaded not guilty and the Chief Magistrate, Mrs B. O Osunsanmi, granted him N300,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
Osunsanmi adjourned the case to January 18 for mention.
