Lebanese arraigned over alleged N9.5m fraud
(Nigeria) A Lebanese, Wessam Mansour, was on Thursday arraigned in an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly obtaining goods worth N9.5 million under false pretence.
Mansour, 54, who was a manager of a Lagos-based company,
however, pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge bordering on fraud and
issuance of dud cheque.
The Magistrate, Mr
Wahab Balogun, granted him bail in the sum of N2million with two credible
sureties in like sum.
Balogun said the sureties must be gainfully employed, must
show means of identification, should also deposit two passport photographs and
verifiable addresses.
He said that the accused should be remanded in Ikoyi Prison
till his bail conditions were perfected.
The Magistrate adjourned the case till January 13, 2017 for
mention.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Eshiet Eshiet, told the court
that the incident occurred on March 3, at 2p.m., at No. 27, CMD Road, Magodo
area of Lagos.
He said that the accused, as the manager of Provider
Supermarket, a subsidiary of Kosi P Global Services Ltd. and with intent to
defraud, allegedly obtained goods worth N9.5 million under pretext of paying
back the proceeds.
Eshiet said that the accused failed to pay back and that he
also stole goods that were kept under his watch.
According to the prosecutor, the stolen goods are property
of George Winner, owner of the supermarket.
He also said that between September 30 and October 28, the
accused issued a First Bank cheque valued at N500,000, which was returned on
presentation, due to insufficient funds.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections
285, 312, 319 (b) and 320 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
