4 suspected robbers of ex-judge remanded in prison


(Nigeria) An Ikeja Chief Magistrates' Court on Wednesday in Lagos remanded four friends in prison for allegedly robbing five people including an ex-judge at gunpoint of property valued at N1.3 million.

The accused are Tade Esomojuwon, 23; Ramon Olatunbosun, 23; Ebuka Amechi, 19; and Oladipupo Adebayo, 22 – all unemployed, are residing at Ajegunle area of Apapa in Lagos.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Donjor Perezi, told the court that the offences were committed between June 14 and July 16 at Ojuelegba, Mile 2, Costain, Ojota, Isolo Bridges, Lagos.
Perezi said the accused robbed five people at gunpoint including a former judge of their belongings valued at N1.3 million.
``The accused operated on bridges during traffic jams, robbing motorists. Part of the items stolen from them are phones, gold jewellery, laptops, watches and money," he said.
The pleas of the accused were not taken as the magistrate remanded them in Kirikiri Prisons.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Layinka, directed that a copy of the case file should be sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, for advice.
The case was adjourned to November 22.
