Delta Speaker extols Orodje’s leadership qualities

(Nigeria) Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, My Monday Igbuya on Thursday, commended His Royal Majesty, Orhue 1, Orodje of Okpe Kingdom for stimulating harmony and development in Delta State.
He also praised the monarch for using his position for the service of the people.
In a congratulatory message to the monarch on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of his ascension to the throne, Igbuya attributed the peace, progress and prosperity of Okpe Kingdom to the wise and benevolent leadership of the monarch.
He applauded the monarch for his noble service to the people and his role in ensuring a better future for progress and prosperity for the people and the kingdom.
Describing His Royal Majesty as “a source of strength and inspiration for many,” Igbuya assured the monarch of rapid development in the kingdom.
“I wish His Royal Majesty, members of the traditional council and all the people of Okpe Kingdom the very best on this special anniversary.”
He also lauded the leadership qualities of the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Labour and Industrial Relations,  Mike Okeme, describing him as “an embodiment of hard work, loyalty and honesty.”
He also expressed deep admiration for Okeme’s invaluable contribution in the area of industrial harmony in Delta State.
 “There is no doubt that your humility, sincerity of purpose and love for mankind has contributed immensely to your success. It is my great pleasure to convey my warmest greetings and heartfelt felicitations to you on the occasion of your 60th birthday,” the statement added.

NBC has no powers to impose fine on broadcast stations --Court

(Nigeria) The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has been restrained by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, from imposing fines on broadcast stations in the country. Trial judge in the matter, Justice James Omotosho also set aside the N500,000 fines imposed on March 1, 2019, on each of 45 broadcast stations. The court made the orders in its judgment a suit by the Incorporated Trustees of Media Rights Agenda, MRA, which had sued the NBC. Justice Omotosho held that the NBC, not being a court of law, had no power to impose sanctions as punishment on broadcast stations. The court further held that the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, which gives the commission the power to impose sanction, is in conflict with Section 6 of the Constitution that vested judicial power in the court of law.
