Abe commends Buhari over board for Ogoni clean-up

(Nigeria) All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for Rivers South East senatorial district in the legislative re-run election in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Abe, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for approving a 13 man Governing Council and 10 member Board of Trustees, BOT, for the cleanup of Ogoni land.
In a statement in Port Harcourt on Sunday by Mr. Parry Benson, spokesperson to Senator Abe, he said that the President has demonstrated sincerity and commitment to the project and had proved sceptics wrong through his actions.
He said that the singular action of the composition of the board was a vital step in the process of implementation of the UNEP report.
He assured the Ogoni people that President Buhari has the political will to execute the clean up exercise.
He called on the people to resist any attempt by their detractors to push them into derailing the project, pointing out that there were people who wanted the project to fail as a political gimmick.
“When we started this struggle, they called us all sorts of names. We refused to blow up pipelines and presented our case based on the instrumentality of international laws, environmental justice and the rights of indigenous people. But today, we are a model to Niger Delta communities. History has vindicated our wisdom.”
Abe, therefore, urged the people to exercise patience and give the president support as preparations were on top gear to have a steady realisation of the project.
