2 burnt beyond recognition as fuel tanker, trailer collide


 (Nigeria) Two persons, a driver and motor boy were burnt to death on Monday, when a fuel tanker and a trailer collided in Cele area of Lagos, causing serious traffic jam on the road.
Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA, in a statement, said the agency received an alert via the CRM at 5.38p.m., of an accident  involving a tanker at Cele bus stop, Oshodi Apapa express way on Monday. This prompted immediate activation of the ERP.
“The 33,000 litres truck collided with another long articulated truck branded with Total and resulted into fire outbreak. Two motalities were recorded, the drivers and motor boy were trapped and burnt to death inside the tanker.  While other occupants of the other truck escaped without any injury.
“The spilled content spread through drainage to the nearby market and gutted part of the market and also burnt a taxi car packed by the side of the road.
“LASEMA ERT, NEMA, FRSC, and Nigeria Police Force moved the scene of the incident. The prompt intervention of the Lagos State Fire and other responders prevented the fire from spreading further.”
“The General Manager LASEMA Mr. Michael Akindele said proper investigation will be conducted to ascertain the cause of the accident.
