Carpenter, 32, in court for allegedly defiling minor


(Nigeria) A 32- year-old carpenter, Samuel Ogan, who allegedly defiled his neighbour’s eight-year-old daughter was on Tuesday arraigned in Lagos State.
The accused, who resides at 28b, Oloruntedo St. in Majiyagbe area of Ipaja, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a charge of defilement before an Ikeja Magistrates' Court.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Rafael Donny, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 3 at his residence.
Donny said the accused called the girl into his room that he wanted to send her on an errand.
``He then shut the door, covered her mouth and had canal knowledge of her. She later narrated what happened to her mother, who took the matter to the police station’’ he said.
Donny said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, ordered that the accused be remanded in Kirikiri prison.
He adjourned the case till July 19 for ruling on the application for bail sought by the accused.
