Wike threatens to sue NPA over road project
(Nigeria) Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has
threatened to sue Nigeria Ports Authority, NPA, for allegedly not paying part
fund for the reconstruction of a road leading to the port.
Wike issued the threat at the inauguration of N303 million
1.4- kilometer industrial road project as part of activities marking his one
year in office on in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
He said the road project which linked the port, was meant to
be funded by both the state government and NPA.
Wike said the industrial road was dilapidated when he
approached the authority to assist the state government in the road's
reconstruction.
"We agreed with NPA and even signed a Memorandum of
Understanding, MoU, to contribute for reconstruction of the road. After
signing, NPA did not bring a dime - and today they are benefitting as economic
activities have increased in the port.
``We have promised our people that we will not allow them to
continue to suffer or allow people and organisations to play politics with
projects. We are looking to take legal action in order to make NPA pay their
part of funds for the project", he said.
Wike said that in spite of challenges, the state government
would embark on new projects and complete projects started by his
administration.
The governor said that his administration was focused to
reducing sufferings of people of the state.
Wike also inaugurated 555 meters Njemanze-Abonnema Wharf Road
which cost N4 billion and 3.5km Borokiri New Road project.
