Ogoni land: Gov Wike flags off construction of Sakpenwa-Bori Road


(Nigeria) The people  of  Ogoni  Ethnic  Nationality on Thursday  went into wild celebration as Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike flagged off  the construction of the strategic Sakpenwa-Bori Road.
Performing  the  flag off of the construction of the Sakpenwa-Bori Road in the  presence  of  the key leaders, traditional  chiefs , women and youth groups  of the Ogoni land,  the  governor  said  that  the  Ogoni  people stood by him all through  the  electioneering period, pointing  out  that  the  dualization  of the Sakpenwa-Bori Road is in fulfilment  of  the  covenant  he entered  with the people.
He assured that the Sakpenwa-Bori Road  will be completed  within the scheduled  time  of 15 months as his administration  will  diligently  fund the  contract.
He added that  he has even started discussing with the contractor to  ensure that the completion  date is reduced  to  12 months.
"We will not play politics with  the  construction  of the road. That is why we have engaged  a reputable construction  company,  CCECC to dualise  the  road", he said.
The  governor  declared  that  his administration  will  complete  another important  Ogoni road, Gokana-Bodo road which  was abandoned  by the  immediate past administration.
He appealed  to  Ogoni  people  to sink their political  differences  and support the  clean up of Ogoni land via the implementation  of  the UNEP Report  by the Federal Government.
In his remarks,  the  Chairman of the Supreme Ogoni Council of Chiefs,  King GNA Giniwa commended the  Governor  for fulfilling his promise  to  the people  of the  area.
The Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, King Dandeson Jaja praised the governor  for always living  up to  his word,  while the Secretary to  the  Rivers State Government, Rt Hon Kenneth Kobani said the commencement of  the construction of Sakpenwa-Bori Road is a dream come true  for Ogoni  people.
President of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People, MOSOP,  Mr. Legborsi Saro Pyagbar said that the Ogoni  people  are grateful  to  Governor  Wike  for living up to his word by commencing the dualization  of  the  road which is critical  to the  economy  of the area.
Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Mr Bathuel Iheanyichukwu assured  that  the  Sakpenwa-Bori Road will be delivered  in line  with  the  specifications  stipulated  in the  contract.
