Democracy Day: Buhari's aide assures youths of better deals ahead
(Nigeria) Special Assistant to the President on Youth and
Students Affairs, Nasir Adhama has said the next three years of the President
Muhammadu Buhari administration promises to be more eventful for the Nigerian
youths with innovative programmes and activities.
In a message of felicitation to Nigerians on the occasion of
the first anniversary of the administration, Adhama, expressed gratitude to the
Nigerian youth for their patience in the last one year.
In a statement by his
Media Aide, Gidado Shuaib, the presidential aide explained that various
programmes and platforms have been outlined to empower the Nigerian youth and
students by creating opportunities for them to develop their potentials to the
fullest and live more productive lives.
He said; "I am glad to have witnessed this day and to
be part of the present administration. I am quite aware of your high
expectations from this administration and I want to assure you that President
Buhari places high premium on the youth as vanguards of change, and he is committed
to our welfare, interest and future.
"The Social Protection Programme launched by President Buhari
recently, will lift millions of Nigerians out of poverty as well as provide
employment opportunities for many Nigerians, among them 500,000 teachers and
100,000 artisans."
He also recalled the president's introduction of the
one-meal-per-day programme, which he said when it commences, would aim at
combating malnutrition among children and improving learning outcomes as well
as enrolment, adding that over 5.5 million children will benefit from the
programme.
He said government’s cash transfer scheme and enterprise
programme targeting market women, artisans and agricultural workers would not
only alleviate poverty but empower women to contribute to national development.
He called on the youth, especially students to reciprocate
the government's gesture in launching the education grant scheme for
undergraduates in science, technology, engineering and mathematics by remaining
committed to their studies and shunning all vices capable of distracting the
government from its goal of laying a solid foundation for economic revival and
human capital development.
