Alleged N7.5m fraud: UNIBEN lecturer petitions EFCC, IG

(Nigeria) A lecturer at the University of Benin, UNIBEN, Ms Edith Ukpebor, has petitioned Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and  Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, alleging that the wife of an Assistant Police Commissioner now based in Lagos, defrauded her and 15 others the sum of N7.5 million after she allegedly faked to be a Deputy Superintendent of Police.
The petitioner alleged that the money which was paid into the account of the wife of the ACP, Mrs Tessy, who allegedly introduced her husband to the petitioner, was meant for the purchase of some vehicles in police custody slated for auctioning.
In the petition  by counsel to Ms Ukpebor,  Mr R. Isenalumhe, the petitioner said she later learnt that the entire exercise was a scam after the discovery that while the husband of the woman was truly a police officer, Mrs Tessy who claimed she was a Deputy Superintendent of Police was never in the police force.
The petitioner lamented that the husband of Mrs Tessy had used his position to frustrate every efforts to investigate the matter both at the Edo State Police Command and Force Headquarters in Abuja, adding that “A senior police officer such as Kunle should not be allowed to continue to use his position to defraud innocent member of the public.
“Consequently, it is our client’s instruction in the aforesaid circumstances to appeal to you and hereby appeal to you to conduct a thorough investigation into this complaint to determine the extent of involvement of Kunle with a view to bringing him to book. Fraudsters under any guise should not be allowed to reign with impunity otherwise the effort of the Federal Government to reform this country will be in vain,” it stated.
