Ugwuanyi swears-in President of Enugu Customary C/Appeal
(Nigeria) Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has
sworn-in Justice George Nnamani as the President of the Customary Court of
Appeal in the state.
Ugwuanyi, who performed the ceremony on Monday at the
Government House, Enugu, said that the exercise was a fallout of
recommendations by the National Judicial Council, NJC.
He said that the NJC had in a letter addressed to the Chief
Judge of the state, Justice Innocent Umezulike, recommended the appointment of
Nnamani as the substantive president after acting as same.
The governor said that the state government had forwarded
two names for the NJC to recommend one.
Ugwuanyi said that following his confirmation by the state
assembly on April 22, the state government deemed it fit to swear him in as his
tenure in acting capacity would elapse on April 26.
He urged him to uphold the integrity of the judiciary at all
times.
Earlier in his address, Justice Umezulike had reminded the
governor that Nnamani was appearing for the third time to be sworn-in in the
past six months.
He said that the two previous occasions were in acting
capacity, adding that Nnamani had the potential to be the best in the country.
In his response, Nnamani said that he was delighted to be
confirmed as the substantive president of the court.
“I will do everything judicially possible to ensure that the
governor realises the Enugu State of his dream,” Nnamani said.
Nnamani was first sworn in as acting president on October
27, 2015.
At the expiration of the three months prescribed by law, he
was again reappointed and sworn in on January 27, 2016.
