Court remands mechanic for defiling neighbour's daughter

(Nigeria) An Ikeja Chief Magistrates' Court, Lagos on Tuesday remanded, mechanic, Opeloyeru Yusuf, in Kirikiri Prison, Lagos, for allegedly defiling his neighbour's 11-year-old daughter.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, adjourned the case to May 16 for hearing on the accused's bail application.
Yusuf, 25, who lives at No. 97 Amawo St., Agege, a suburb of Lagos, is standing trial on one-count of defilement.
The prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan told the court that the offence was committed on April 17 at the accused residence.
Aigbokhan said that Yusuf sent the girl to buy food for him and on her return, shut the door to his room and defiled her.
``The accused warned the girl not to tell anyone but when she was having severe pain on her private part, she told her aunty,’’ the prosecutor said.
He said that the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused plea was not taken.
