Man, 36, arraigned for defiling a minor

(Nigeria) The Police in Benin on Thursday arraigned one Praise Nwaobi at an Evbouriaria Magistrates' Court for allegedly having unlawfully carnal knowledge of a five-year-old girl.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Olatoye Oluwaseun, told the court that that Nwaobi unlawfully inserted his penis into the victim's vagina.
He said that the accused committed the offence on March 2, 2016, at Elemare Street, off Sapele Road, Benin.
Oluwaseun told the court the offence contravened section 218 of the Criminal Code Cap. 48 Vol. II Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976, as applicable in Edo.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs C.E. Oghuma, granted the accused bail in the sum of N400,000 and a surety in like sum.
Oghuma adjourned the case to April 4 for hearing.
