Man, 28, arraigned over attempt to defile a minor

(Nigeria) A 28-year old man, Daniel Aranrie, who allegedly attempted to defile an eleven-year old girl, was on Monday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates' Court, Lagos.
Aranrie, a generator repairer, who lives at 7, Akinwale St., Ishaga, a suburb of Lagos, is being tried for attempt to commit felony.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the offence was committed in December 2015 at the residence of the accused.
Aigbokhan told the court that the accused and the child lived in the same compound.
"It was when one of the co-tenants in the house raised alarm over an attempt by the accused to defile the girl and was brought to the police station that it was discovered that the accused used to give the girl money.
"The girl said in her statement that the accused used to give her money and would tell her to come to his room," he said.
He said the offence contravened Section 404 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, granted the accused N250,000 bail with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till March 11 for mention.
