Fayose’s congratulation of Sherriff, loyalty to PDP ----Ekiti Speaker
(Nigeria) (Nigeria) The congratulation and expression of support for
the new national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Alli
Modu Sheriff by the Ekiti State governor, Bashorun Ayose Fayose, last week, was
simply an act of loyalty to the party and its decision, the Speaker of the
state House of Assembly, Pastor Kola Oluwawole, has said.
Oluwawole said “partisanship apart, whatever the party has
decided to do should be supported by any loyalist of the party. In the first
and second republics, party decisions were supreme. No individual member was
bigger than the party of which he or she was a member. That is how
constitutional democracy should operate.”
According to a statement by his Special Assistant (Media),
Stephen Gbadamosi, on Monday, in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, Oluwawole said
the current divergent outbursts over the emergence of Sheriff as the party’s
national chairman was a healthy development that would soon be settled within
the party, maintaining that it showed that the PDP was a party that allowed for
all voices to be heard.
“The Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, is a man that hates
muffling of opposition’s voices, whether intra or inter party. He wants
everybody to have his or her voice heard. He expressed support for the
emergence of Alli Modu Sheriff as PDP national chairman based on his belief
that the party’s decision is supreme.
“He is the main voice of the opposition in Nigeria today. He
wants every voice to be heard. Partisanship apart, whatever the party has
decided to do should be supported by any loyalist of the party. In the first
and second republics, party decisions were supreme. That is how constitutional
democracy should operate.
“Fayose does not believe in one man running the show.
Nigerians should be patient to discover that the wobbling and fumbling of the
All Progressives Party, APC, at the moment will show that the PDP is the loved
most capable party in the country.
“Being a leader of the PDP himself, Fayose will not shy away
from all altruistic efforts to reposition the party and set it on the part of
progress. The rumour that some governors and former governors foisted Sheriff
on the party is unfounded. Let them face their crumbling homes and allow the
PDP to put its house in order the way it deems good,” he said.
The Speaker reiterated the support of the state House of
Assembly for the governor, noting that “he has acquitted himself well. No
amount of opposition’s antics will divide the people of Ekiti in their course
to salvage the ruins the APC has the state a couple of months ago.”
