al-Assad assures Putin of commitment to ceasefire
Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday received a
phone call from Russian President, Vladimir Putin discussing prospects of the
crisis in Syria in light of implementing the ceasefire agreement.
President al-Assad, according to the country’s news agency,
pledges during the phone call, his government’s readiness to contribute to
implementing the ceasefire agreement.
Presidents al-Assad and Putin, were also said that have
agreed on the importance of going ahead in combating the terrorist
organisations of “Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Jabhat al-Nusra and
other terrorist organisations, which are still in still in control of some of
the country’s territory.
It will be recalled that the United State and Russia
brokered the ceasefire agreement, which Syria has insisted does not stop it
from going after terror groups in that country.
