Seme Customs Command seizes goods valued at N6.9m

(Nigeria) The Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Command, Lagos, on Wednesday, said it seized smuggled goods worth N6.9 million between January 13 and January 26.
A statement by the Command's Public Relations Officer, Mr Selchang Taupyen, in Badagry, Lagos State, said that the items seized included 695 cartons of imported poultry products; 115 bags of rice; 117 kegs of 50 litre petrol; a truck and two scrap vehicles.
``All hands must be on deck to generate revenue and to suppress smuggling to the barest minimum. This is just the beginning of it all and we shall do our best to facilitate legitimate trade and secure our nation through commitment to our responsibilities,’’ it said.
The statement said that three suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures.
``Being an epitome of discipline and an advocate of strict compliance with the implementation of the service extant laws, the Area Controller, Comptroller Victor Dimka, is marching words with action. As he (Dimka) works round the clock with the determination to succeed at all cost.
``Consequently, there is a far departure from acts of indiscipline observed among officers and men to better commitment and strict adherence to procedures and guidelines in the discharge of their duties.
``Officers of the command who fail to follow the rules and ethics guiding the job would be dealt with in accordance to the law,’’ the statement said.
The statement advised Nigerians to embrace legitimate trade and desist from smuggling.
