Army denies report of its Chief of Operations in arms scandal

(Nigeria) The Nigerian Army has denied a media report that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has sealed property belonging to its Chief of Training and Operations, Maj.-Gen. Yushau Abubakar.
In a statement in Abuja by Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, on behalf of the acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, he described the media report as false, stressing that no property linked to the officer had been sealed by the anti-graft agency in its investigation of arms procurement.
He added that Abubakar, who was the former Commander, `Operation Lafia Fole’, has not been linked to the $2.1 billion Arms Deal by the EFCC.
He said it was quite unprofessional and unfair for any medium to publish a report without clearly establishing the correct identity of the person involved.
He said the publication did not only misguide the public but has embarrassed the Nigerian Army, the senior officer and his family.
