16-yrs old boy remanded in prison over rape

(Nigeria) An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ekiti State on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 16-year-old boy docked for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl.
The plea of the 16-year-old boy who was not represented by counsel was not taken.
Chief Magistrate Idowu Ayenimo, ordered his remanded in prison custody pending the advice from the office of Directorate of Public Prosecutions, DPP.
He adjourned the case till February 25, 2016 for further hearing.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Bamikole Olasunkanmi, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on January 15 at Aisegba-Ekiti.
He alleged that the accused, on the said date, unlawfully defiled an eight-year-old girl, and inflicted injuries on her.
The prosecutor said that the accused was hospitalised as a result of the injuries. According to him, the offence contravened section 218 of the Criminal Code, Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor said that he had duplicated the case file and sent a copy to the DPP for legal advice.
