Ukraine again cut power to Crimea
Electricity from Ukraine to the Russia-annexed Crimean
peninsula has been cut again after the collapse of a power pylon.
Ukraine's electricity supplies to Crimea had been partly
restored after towers were blown up in November, but the collapse early
Thursday again cut the flow. News reports said Ukrainian police suspect the
collapse was also caused by an explosion, reports AP.
The November outage left Crimea severely short of power for
two weeks before Russia, which annexed the region in 2014, was able to rush
completion of two undersea cables that sizably boosted power.
The downed power line filled about 10 percent of Crimea's electricity
demand, said the Russian news agency.
Russia aims to complete two more undersea cables in the
spring and to make Crimea independent of Ukrainian electricity.
