Respect Audu/Faleke ticket, Faleke tells APC

(Nigeria) Mr James Faleke, running mate to All Progressives Congress, APC governorship candidate in the Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Audu (late), has called on the national leadership of the party to respect the Audu/Faleke ticket.
Faleke made the call while addressing supporters and state leadership of the party at the late Audu’s house in Lokoja on Monday.
He vowed not to allow anybody to steal the mandate jointly given to the late Audu and himself on November 21 by Kogi state electorate.
Faleke said he was nominated by Audu as running mate in fulfilment of Section 187 of the Constitution which mandates the governorship candidate to do so.
He said the party ``handed over to us the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC nomination forms as its flag bearers.
``The party primaries, therefore, remained an ad-hoc tool mainly for producing a candidate for the party.’’
He referred to the INEC timetable and confirmation of 22 political parties and their candidates for the election where the names of Abubakar Audu and himself appeared jointly as APC candidates in line with section 141 of the Electoral Act.
Faleke said in the spirit of section 181 of the constitution, he was the right person to replace late Audu in the prevailing circumstance.
He said that since the death of Audu, there had been various views and that Nigerians had offered him ``various baits.
``But I wish to make it abundantly clear that this struggle is not only for me. It is beyond me and it has become a moral burden on my shoulders to defend on behalf of political family of late Prince Abubakar Audu, the interest, views and vision of our late leader.
Faleke noted that it would be unfair for the national leadership of APC to settle for someone who never worked for the success of the party but engaged in anti-party activities.
He said in line with section 181 of the constitution, he had nominated Mohammed Abubakar Audu as his running mate pursuant to section 141 of the Electoral Act, 2010 (As amended).
This, he explained was with the consent of the party hierarchy in the state and wished national body of APC to so abide.
He urged voters in the state and teeming supporters of the late Prince Abubakar Audu to remain peaceful and law abiding.
Faleke assured that ``no matter how long it takes, your mandate will be defended, sustained and maintained.’’
Earlier, Chairman of APC in the state, Prince Abubakar Audu/James Faleke Campaign Council, Mr Humphrey Abba said democracy was all about the people, adding that few individuals should not change the peoples’ decision.
``The people of Kogi have the right to choose who they want. Abuja cannot impose a candidate on us.  APC must give effect to the decision of our people. APC national working committee must give effect to the anti-corruption stand of President Buhari,’’ he said.
Former governorship aspirant, Alhaji Isah Jibrin (Echocho), said Audu died fighting for the liberation of the state.
Jibrin said Faleke and Mohammed had been properly groomed to continue the fight.
