Police await ballistic analysis into Ariaria market killings

(Nigeria) The Police in Abia State on Thursday said investigations into the killings in Ariaria market on July 31, was yet to be concluded due to delay in ballistics report.
The Public Relations Officer of Police in the state, Udeviotu Onyeke, disclosed this in an interview in Aba, Abia State.
``The bullets found at the scene of the incident have been forwarded to ballistics experts in Lagos for examination and proper analyses but we are yet to get their report.  We are awaiting their report which will bring the investigation to a logical conclusion and make it available for the next line of action.”
He said some NDLEA officials arrested for questioning in connection with the event which led to the killings, have been released.
Onyeke said that the Abia state NDLEA Commander, Mr Bamidele Akigbade stood bail for the officers on bond, adding that the body of one of the victims had also been released to his people for burial.
It will be recalled that NDLEA personnel went to a black spot, popularly called, “the Black Kingdom”, on July 31, in Ariaria, Aba, to arrest its kingpin known as Martin Luther King.
He was reportedly implicated in hard drug deals and brutality of NDLEA personnel in Aba.
Akigbade said the arrest was foiled by the King and his men who started shooting to escape arrest and in the process, shot some Ariaria traders on Powerline zone.
Shoemakers said the shooting of their members made them to stage the protest.
The Police and Army were called in to quell the protest.
Two shoemakers were reported to have been shot dead while five others were rushed to the hospitals with varying degrees of bullets wounds.
