Man charged to court over attempted rape

(Nigeria) A 36-year-old unemployed man, Rasak Ali, who allegedly attempted to rape two minors, was on Monday arraigned in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates' Court, Lagos.
Ali, who lives at Abesan Estate, Ipaja, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a charge of attempted rape.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Jimah Iseghede, told the court that the offence was committed on November 25, at Abesan Estate, Ipaja.
Iseghede said that the accused gave the children, aged 6 and 7, a biscuit and used it to lure them to a corner of a house.
The prosecutor said that he was caught by a passerby when he was about to undress one of the children.
The offence, according to the prosecutor, contravened Section 21(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, granted the accused N200,000 bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till January 13 for further hearing.
