INEC assures of hitch-free poll in Bayelsa
(Nigeria) The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,
on Wednesday said it had improved on its logistics and was ready to conduct a
hitch-free governorship election in Bayelsa on December 5.
Mr Baritor Kpagih, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC,
in the state, stated this in Yenagoa.
Kpagih said that the commission had prepared well for the
election, adding that the state office had started taking delivery of sensitive
and non-sensitive election materials.
He said that distribution of the materials would begin as
soon as all they were fully delivered.
``The materials are ballot papers and result sheets; we have
received part of them but we will not distribute the one we have until when we
have them complete. The materials are supposed to have got to us before now but
the arrangement was disrupted by the election that was just conducted in Kogi
last Saturday,’’ he said.
According to him, we have concluded plan to hire boats that
will be conveying the materials and we will reach out to the riverside
communities.
``The materials are for INEC offices in the eight local
government areas of the state and will later be distributed to all the wards in
the areas. Bayelsa is a difficult
terrain but we are ready and committed to conduct free, fair and credible
election,” he said.
The REC urged politicians and their supporters as well as
the electorate to play the game by the rule as a way of supporting INEC to
achieve credible exercise.
