Daudu counsel lawyers to emulate virtues of Justice Fabiyi

(Nigeria) Mr Joseph Daudu, former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, on Thursday advised legal practitioners to emulate the virtues of the former Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice John Fabiyi.
Daudu gave the advice in Abuja at a public presentation and launching of a book entitled: `` Selected Judgments (being selected leading decisions of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal).
According to him, Justice Fabiyi leaves the bench with his integrity and reputation intact, which should be envied and emulated by all legal professionals in the country.
``In all my 35 years of practice, I have not heard any negative or adverse comment made against his lordship. It is not common that in the course of handling politically sensitive cases, certain base fellows have been known to make scurrilous remarks about judges.
“His lordship is no exception from the antics of these politicians masquerading as lawyers.  I have great respect and admiration for his lordship and his departure from the Nigerian Bench through retirement is an admixture of joy and sadness, `` Daudu said.
He said that the practice of law in Nigeria was a banana peel which could in the twinkling of an eye bring down an unwary or unsuspecting lawyer or judge.
Earlier, the book reviewer, Justice Adedotun Onibokun, Judge, High Court of Justice, Osun State, recommended the book to all legal practitioners and politicians in the country.
She said that the book was a great contribution to national development through the window of judiciary and indeed to the legal profession in the country.
On his part, Fabiyi said the legal profession could not progress if members of the profession did not behave as to be respected in the society as a learned person.
Fabiyi also advised lawyers go back to what the legal profession was all about, adding that the practice of law was not just about making money, lawyers have a duty to the society.
