Ban worried over downing of Russian bomber jet

United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon is seriously concerned over the incident resulting in the downing of a Russian military plane by the Turkish air force earlier on Tuesday.
UN Spokesman, Stephane DuJarric told reporters during Tuesday briefing in New York that Ban urged all relevant parties to take urgent measures with a view to de-escalate tensions.
DuJarric said the Secretary-General hoped that a credible and thorough review of the incident would clarify events and help prevent any recurrence.
He said Ban had urged all those who were engaged in military activities in Syria, to maximise operational measures to avoid unintended consequences and to do all they could to protect civilians.
``The Secretary-General believes today’s worrying developments once again underscores the importance of international unity and cooperation in international action against violent extremists in the region.
``He also underscores the urgent need to agree on a solution to the tragic events in Syria,'' DuJarric added.
