Court remands teacher, 51, for defiling 4 pupils in Ekiti

(Nigeria) A 51-year-old pupil teacher, Mathew Oluyede, was on Monday remanded in Ado-Ekiti Prisons, Ekiti State for allegedly defiling four pupils.
Oluyede, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of defilement at an Ado Ekiti Magistrates’ Court.
Magistrate Taiwo Ajibade, who did not take the plea of the accused, said he should be kept behind bars until the next date of adjournment.
She said the case file should be duplicated and sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, for legal advice.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the accused committed the offence between October 19 and October 21 at Ayetoro-Ekiti in Ido Council Area of the state.
According to him, Oluyede defiled four minors (names withheld) of between ages two to nine.
He urged the court to remand the accused immediately.
The offence contravened Section 218 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti, 2012.
The accused, on conviction, may be sentenced to life imprisonment.
The case has been adjourned to Novembrr 17 pending DPP's advice.
