(Nigeria) A Makurdi Magistrates Court in Benue State on Monday remanded four suspects arraigned in connection with the rape of a married woman.
The accused persons, Aondona Ibiam, Terungwa Iorkyaan, Tersoo Tume and Aondonyerga Tyav, were alleged to have committed the offence in September.
They were charged by the police for criminal conspiracy, administering obnoxious substance and having carnal knowledge without consent.
The plea of the accused persons was not taken.
The Magistrate, Mrs Theresa Wergba, ordered them to be remanded at the Federal Prisons, Makurdi and adjourned the case to November 18, for further mention.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Imo Edward told the court that the case was reported at Ukum Divisional Police Station on September 21, by one Dr Daniel Iorkaa of Yam Market area in Zaki-Biam.
The complainant had reported that he discovered his younger brother's wife, who lived in the same address, behaving in an abnormal manner.
The prosecutor said that when Iorkaa inquired from her what was wrong she alleged that Ibiam and Iorkyaan took her to a herbalist, Tersoo Tume, who administered some substance on her.
The prosecutor said that after the substance was administered, the woman was rendered helpless and Ibiam had carnal knowledge of her without her consent.
The prosecution said investigation into the matter was still ongoing and asked the court for another date for mention.
Edward said that the offences contravened Sections 97, 250 and 284 of the Penal Code, Laws of Benue State (Revised Edition), 2004.
