Orubebe is an elevated thug ------Oshiomhole
(Nigeria) Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, has described Mr Godsday Orubebe, former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, as an
elevated thug and a political jobber, who is out to make noise as means of
getting his next meal ticket.
Oshiomhole in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Peter
Okhiria, in reaction to Orubebe’s fresh attack on him said
“Reading Orubebe’s infantile outburst saying the governor of
Edo State is a “garage boy” easily exposes the boondocks orientation and
lowly mind of someone who almost plunged the country into political anarchy in
the last general elections.
"It easily underscores one of the reasons why the
Jonathan administration failed abysmally to understand the nexus between
promise and performance, between problems and solutions, and above all between
prosperity and poverty.
“Orubebe is no more than a common tout and political thug,
too illiterate to know the difference between a “garage” and a “motor park”,
recruited by his paymasters as Deputy Director-General of the 2015
Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organisation, and agent provocateur to truncate the
last election. But for the maturity and sound leadership orientation of
Professor Atahiru Jega, Nigeria would still have been reeking in utter anarchy
and political protestations.
“With such indecorous conduct coming from a man who
ostensibly is an “Elder’ of a Church, calls to question the whole essence of
his character, personality, upbringing and spirituality. That singular conduct
of his at the elections is a living symphony of his egregious blunder,
absurdities, incongruities and oddities, all of which are attributes of touts
always desirous to make their voices heard.
“It is due to his amnesia that he forgot to understand that
as a Nigerian and governor of a state, Oshiomhole has statutory right
to go in and out of the Presidential Villa to discuss issues that affect Edo
State. Former President Jonathan was President of Nigeria and not
President of his party, the PDP. He was under obligation to attend to all
parties and persons irrespective of their political affiliation.
“The real problem of former President Jonathan was having
people like Orubebe who pigeon-holed him as president of the Ijaw Nation and
prevented him from appreciating the enormity of the challenges facing the
Nigerian nation. To further compound the challenges was the dénouement of his
unruly and thuggish imputation during the elections, such tendentious character
index that is now synonymous with this Niger-Deltan.
“Orubebe and his ilk turned the Presidency to a cabal, ran
by ego-tripping political fat cats who blindfolded former President Jonathan
from the real issues of governance. Desperate to continue that regime of
plundering, sleaze and malfeasance, Orubebe was given the job of ensuring that
the elections were stagnated by crook or hook. His roguish display at the venue
of the announcement of results was to further actualize that notorious script;
such a shameless role by a shameless father who was supposed to be a role model
for good parenting.
“As former Minister of the Ministry of Niger Delta, he
dreamt throughout his tenure without any discernible roadmap for the
Niger-Delta region. We challenge him to name just a project he executed in Edo
State as a product of his ministerial intervention during his tenure. He
vandalized all the East-West roads, made them almost impassable as a caveat to
get more budgetary allocation. He touts the East-West road as if that was the
only reason why the Ministry of Niger Delta was created.
“As a Nigerian from the Niger-Delta geopolitical conclave,
the likes of Orubebe are not only sad commentaries on the collective
aspirations of the region, he represents the region’s black sheep who had
opportunity to add value to the commonality of our existence but ended up
adding insult to our collective injuries.
“A man like Orubebe should cover his face in utter shame for
being such a huge disappointment for which the entire nation now derides the
region for presenting a mere tout as one of our first eleven. Never again will
the Niger Delta region be represented by characters like Orubebe who went to
sleep while in office when others were busy working. The end result is that the
region is utterly vandalized, raped and plundered without any discernible development.
What a shame.
“He should mention the projects he attracted to the entire
Niger Delta region during his tenure, or better still what he did in Burutu
Local Government where he comes from. Despite the billions of naira budgeted
for the Niger Delta Ministry, what has Orubebe got to show for it? The day of
reckoning is surely here and he will account for every kobo spent.
“When the real story of the Jonathan Administration is
written, Orubebe would rather be referred to as a Common Tout of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria instead of being called a former Minister.”
