Buhari working to steady Nigeria ----- Alex Ideh

(Nigeria) All Progressive Congress, APC, chieftain, Dr. Alex Ideh, has urged Nigerians to be patient with President Muhammadu Buhari, who he said is working hard to steady the ship of the Nigerian state.
Appraising the performance of Buhari after more than three months in office, Ideh, in a statement, yesterday, said the President’s seemingly slow pace but meticulous approach to governance since he assumed office is due to his determination to lay the foundation for ''sustainable structures for good, transparent and people-oriented governance.”
Ideh, a former commissioner in Delta State and secretary to the APC National Convention Committee that produced Buhari as the party’s flag bearer, defended the activities and steps taken so far by the three-month old administration and called for patience and understanding of Nigerians in rallying support for the President.
The statement reads in part: “I can assure all Nigerians that the President is actually working out a template for good, transparent and people-oriented governance. Things might appear to be somehow slow on the surface but a lot is going on silently. We voted for a change and if it is not built on a solid or concrete foundation, in no distant future after the expiry of the Buhari administration, the nation might slither back into the same murky mire of corruption and mismanagement of our commonwealth.
“Streamlining federal ministries, parastatals and agencies are part of the work going on. Discovering and blocking loopholes and wastage are also being worked on. Preparing a ground for smooth take-off of this administration in all areas are part of what the president is doing at the moment.
“Nigerians are fortunate to have President Buhari at this critical period in the nation’s history who willingly offered to rescue the nation from the brink of total economic gloom back to normalcy. The first step in this direction is confronting and defeating the hydra-headed monster called corruption, which is germane to the emerging development especially on the economic sphere.
“For instance, the fact that President Buhari is in the saddle, some things have started working and Nigerians are beginning to feel the impact of change of leadership. Take power supply for example. As at today, we have a marked improvement in power supply in many parts of the country.
“Likewise, petroleum sector is receiving recuperating attention while lopsided last minutes appointments made by the immediate past administration are being reviewed or redressed.
“With the recent appointments of Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief of Staff and a few other strategic positions, it further confirms that Mr. President is working steadily behind the scene to firmly reposition the sliding quality of governance especially at the centre.
“It is on this premise that Mr. President needs the maximum cooperation, understanding and prayers of every Nigerian to excel in the interest of all of us. The days, weeks, months and years ahead with Buhari in the saddle signal a new dispensation and good prospects for the nation.”
